Origin: This crabs ancestors lived in the Ocean, but due to evolution, these crabs have learned to grow in freshwater environments.
Maximum Size: In aquariums, this crab often grows to be 3" long, but they live many years and continue to grow slowly for their entire lives.
Compatibility: Some recommended tank mates include any community fish, some small fish may be easy for these crabs to get their claws on, so watch out.

Temperature: This crab can live pretty well from about 70 to 80 degrees F., but they're probably most comfortable from about 75 to 78 degrees F.

Water Conditions: This crab can tolerate a wide range of water conditions. Probably a pH of about 7 with moderate hardness is best.
ost water in the US seems to be OK, so it's probably best NOT to adjust the pH or the hardness of the water.
Here in our facilities the water is hard and the pH is usually about 7.8. We ship them in this water.
Aquarium Size: These guys can do well living in a 20-gallon aquarium, but of course bigger is better.
Decor: These crabs do not need gravel, and a layer of gravel more than 1/4" thick will usually fill with bits of uneaten food that will contaminate the water.
Rocks and out of water areas would be an excellent addition for these guys.

Aquarium Filter: Bio-Wheel filters are highly recommended. A Penguin 200B Filter in an aquarium with 30-gallons is OK.

Life Span: This crab can live for a few years, these crabs will eventually need to be introduced to saltwater in their aquarium for them to live that long.
Gender: Males show off great color, like you can see in the picture, and females are more dull.
Breeding: There have been some attempts with breeding these crabs.
Popularity: These freshwater crabs are rather popular.
Names: This species name is Geosesarma sp. Blue.
Variations: There are some variations throughout the US.
